Description

One Pot French Onion Pasta is a comforting, creamy dish that combines the rich flavors of caramelized onions and savory broth with perfectly cooked pasta. This easy-to-make recipe requires only one pot, making cleanup a breeze. Topped with gooey Gruyère cheese, each bite offers a delightful blend of nostalgia and warmth, perfect for cozy weeknight dinners or gatherings with family and friends.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz fettuccine or penne pasta
  • 2 medium yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 4 cups low-sodium beef broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup grated Gruyère cheese
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme (or ½ tsp dried)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large pot over medium heat, melt the butter. Add sliced onions and sauté until golden brown and caramelized, approximately 15-20 minutes.
  2. Pour in the beef broth and bring to a simmer. Stir in the pasta, ensuring all noodles are coated. Cover and cook according to package instructions (10-12 minutes) until al dente.
  3. Reduce heat to low and mix in the heavy cream until well combined.
  4. Add grated Gruyère cheese on top, stirring until melted.
  5. Season with salt, pepper, and thyme to taste.
  6. Serve hot, garnished with additional thyme if desired.
